I feel compelled this week to share three qualities psychoanalytic literature suggests we need in order to experience happiness. This is despite last week’s post on living the good life which offered similar information. If you have read my memoir, Fear, Folly & Freud, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that my need to solidify these tips to happiness is strong. I am therefore risking repetition hoping that you too will find these tips helpful to further understand how happiness can appear in your life.
Here they are:
1. Have the capacity to know and then withstand knowing that life is not going to be as you want it to be.
2. Be willing to face and work through pain and suffering that arise.
3. Have the ability to continue to develop yourself as a unique person, while knowing that all the good things you create will eventually come to an end.
Which one of the three Tips is the most difficult for you to live with? Personally, I am finding all of them to be quite challenging but curiously, having them listed in this manner seemed to help. I’d love to hear from you!
