Stop Trying To Figure It Out

This morning I asked myself, how hard can it be to relax?

When I answered myself, I said: “I’m having a difficult time relaxing – there is so much I want to do.”

Before I retired, I heard people talk about being busier than they were when they were working. I’ll never be that way I thought:

“I’m going to be in the moment. My days will be full of relaxing and reading and meditating and exercising.”

I’m sorry to report that for a couple of weeks, while I’ve been reading, meditating, and exercising, I have not felt relaxed. I’ve felt pressured more times than I wanted. A bit anxious. Worried. We had a dead ash tree felled. The clock time changed. I met our new accountant. I couldn’t find time to work on the last chapter of my new memoir and wondered if I was procrastinating?

I needed help so I pulled out Jeff Foster’s book, The Way of Rest.

A back cover blurb from Jeff was what I needed to hear so I’m going to share his quote  with you in hopes that we all can relax for the weekend:

“STOP TRYING TO FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT. GIVE IN. GIVE UP. GIVE ALL TO THE MOMENT’S EMBRACE. FALL INTO NOT KNOWING.”

Thanks for reading. Good luck – we’re in this together. Let me know how you get the rest you need.
