I like the idea of being silly.
This statue, strategically located across from the toilet at my friend’s house, made me laugh. Its location was perfect. My laughter warmed me up.
I encouraged you to be silly last week: take the sting out of winter I said. I didn’t hear from any of you so I’m imagining that you are all frozen solid.
Prove me wrong! Flood this blog with silly comments, stories, or photos.
Or just think your own private silly thoughts. Blizzards and disrupted traffic patterns need your silly smile and energy.
Together we will make it through this colder than usual winter, especially if we explore the mystery and dabble in silliness.
Thanks for joining me – Nicky Mendenhall

One morning I thought it silly to make up a story of how I lost my first tooth for my daughter who is going through that process. I came up with off the top of my silly head that a squirrel had snuck in and taken it out with its nut cracking and fast hands activity. (put in your own sound effects, and squirrel motions here)
I then said that i was afraid of squirrels to this day, and could not bear to hear them, or look at them, or have a thought about them. Well, if you knew my daughter, you can only imagine how much fun this was for her to torture her Daddy with countless squirrel mentions, and a squirrel board game and ornament for Christmas.
Dear Anonymous – what a wonderful story! How creative you are. Your daughter is a lucky girl.Your example of silliness is so heartwarming. Thanks for sharing with all of us. I will think of you as I watch the squirrels in our yard.
I like winter, so I don't need ways to get through or bear it. I do complain about it, of course, but then I complain about summer too. Winter suits my urge to withdraw, to sleep more, to contemplate, to read, to be alone, to clean out the photographs, to explore soup recipes, to look at tree branches without their leaves, to use all those cozy blankets I have. I am relieved to be free from gardening for awhile, to take care of indoors instead. One reason I like Des Moines is the four intense seasons. I'm probably the only person reading this blog who feels this way, but I am not eager for spring; it will come soon enough.
HI Vicki – Thanks for your perspective. This year I have been enjoying the times when it seems too cold to venture out. I keep buying books for one cent on Amazon – with the postage of $3.99 it makes for cheap entertainment. Enjoy winter while it lasts – as you said – spring will be here soon enough.
